Mount Kenya Trust - Wildlife Ranger Challenge 2026
Uniting To Support Africa’s Rangers #ForWildlifeRangers
My story
Support Mount Kenya Rangers in protecting & conserving one of Kenya's most critical ecosystem & UNESCO World Heritage site that supports 3.5 Million people through its ecosystem process & its unique endemic biodiversity by sustaining their well-being, safety and showing appreciation for their work.
MKT rangers are placed strategically across the Mount Kenya man and biosphere reserve by protecting 260,000 Ha of terrestrial ecosystems, and restoring over 35,000 Ha of degraded forest land. They also protect wildlife through anti-poaching and rescue operations and enhancing Human-Wildlife Coexistence by maintaining the Mount Kenya Elephant Corridor.
Mount Kenya Trust rangers are the link to coexistence between people and nature, frontline responders, on-the-ground monitors, data collectors, and implementers. They are educators, sensitizing communities on conservation and young children through the Junior Ranger Programme and are elite fire fighters working alongside the community to mitigate and respond to forest fires.
These rangers work across harsh and demanding terrain, and are often exposed to danger and life threatening conditions, yet, their passion for Mount Kenya is unwavering. They need better welfare standards and capacity to work. They deserve appreciation and recognition.
The Wildlife Ranger Challenge, organised by Tusk, is a celebration of solidarity, connection and camaraderie for the ranger profession. Culminating on 19th September 2026, the campaign raises vital funds for Africa's biodiversity guardians.
