Our Story

The Wildlife Ranger Challenge, organised by Tusk, is a celebration of solidarity, connection and camaraderie for the ranger profession.

The Malilangwe Scouts are a proud and disciplined anti-poaching team who are dedicated to the protection and monitoring of wildlife on the Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve. Malilangwe Trust employs 90 scouts who are strategically deployed. Daily patrols contribute to law enforcement and biological monitoring. While on patrol they observe and record data on all large mammals, which is captured into an extensive database and used to direct management and further scientific research.

Amongst the rangers, there is a unit of highly trained individuals, whose primary role is to rapidly react to any security incidents. They work closely with the Head of Security to conduct scouts training, assist with boundary and night patrols, rhino monitoring and data collection, assist government authorities with off property policing and visit local communities, with whom they forge meaningful relationships.

Support from WRC will enable us to kit out the Malilangwe Scouts with new boots, which will allow them to traverse the reserve daily in diverse terrains and all-weather conditions, as well as upgrade their first aid kits and hiking packs with hydration systems.

Give today and the Scheinberg Relief Fund will match every dollar donated, amplifying your impact. Join us in speaking up #ForWildlifeRangers
