World Rhino Day 2025

Sep 22, 2025, 2:10:03 PM

The Wildlife Ranger Challenge has been completed successfully! Team A took 3 hrs 20 min to finish, Team B - 4 hrs 30 min. Now, waiting for the results from the across Africa! While waiting, we are also celebrating the World Rhino Day. We will always celebrate it. Because Rhinos are the animals that made our unit happen 12 years ago. To celebrate with us, click on the link below to read our new blog post written by Sergeant Belinda Mzimba about her encounter with rhinos during the patrol.

Why removing snares matter so much now

Sep 6, 2025, 6:50:48 AM

We are certain many of you know what snares are. But let us dive deeper into what they REALLY DO. In our areas we search for wire or cable traps that subsistence poachers set up in and around protected areas to catch game. At least the initial purpose of setting them up is to catch antelopes for food or for reselling it. This is a very sad situation because nobody in this world should be so desperate as to be forced to survive by doing this. Snaring is illegal and may lead a poacher to commit bigger crimes like rhino poaching. Why? because once this is not enough, they know there could be something more. That is why it is critical to stop the small crime at the very root of it to prevent it into growing into a disaster. The other side of it is torturing death of the animal. The trick here is when an animal gets into a snare, the more it tries to escape the trap, the tighter the trap closes down on its leg or its neck, The animal can die from wounds, infections, inability to hunt and eat, and suffocation. If you wonder which animals can get trapped, the answer is any. Not just antelopes, but rhinos, lions, hyenas, wild dogs, giraffes, elephants, hippos! Literally no animal is able to escape from these deadly traps and that is why it is a matter of concern these days in the Greater Kruger. Apart from it, some animals are now snared for muti, or traditional African medicine. Lions are well sought after because of their bones. We HAVE to stop it. And you can help us doing it in 2026. Please support us by donating, we are running this challenge to be able to stay on duty and continue our work next year without disruptions and in full team!

What your donation mean to us

Sep 4, 2025, 6:07:27 PM

We have been taking part in the challenge for the last 6 years. 2025 is the year number 6. We raise $ 18.000 on average every year through the challenge. Portion of the funds go to our operational expenses, such as the maintenance of patrol vehicles, which are absolutely critical to assess the areas during the night. But most of the funds go to cover our salaries so that we are able to stay on duty, support our families and allow our kids stay at school. With your help we aim to raise $5000 which will secure more rangers' wages in 2026. If that happens, it will mean more our kids will be fed, taken care of and they will stay at school. Thank you

APU Essentials. Patrol Vehicles

Sep 4, 2025, 1:40:56 PM

We work among dangerous game, best known in the world as African Big 5. While during the day it is possible to do foot patrol safely, during the night it is not recommended at all. That is why a good patrol vehicle is essential. Our vehicles are old, they have been serving us for the last 12 years and need service and repairs. You can help us make our patrols safe! Support us during the Wildlife Ranger Challenge this September, your donations fund vehicle service and spares which are so important for conducting the night patrols in our reserve. Thank you!

Help us stay on duty!

Aug 22, 2025, 11:11:58 AM

Since the beginning of 2025 we have found and removed 378 snares from protected areas we are deployed to do anti-poaching and wider wildlife security work. Global pandemic had escalated this issue in the Greater Kruger and species other than antelopes are also a target for poachers for multiple reasons, including traditional medicine Muti. YOU CAN HELP US stay deployed and continue our vital work by supporting us this #WildlifeRangerChallenge 2025! EVERY BIT COUNTS. Thank you!

Push Up Challenge

Aug 19, 2025, 10:09:57 AM

Push Up Challenge is indeed a big challenge, especially for women, as we are fully aware our strength is not in our arms. However, with consistent training and team work we decided to take part in this mini challenge again, not to win but to show support to other rangers across Africa and just to show ourselves we CAN do it. Sosha ze Crazy Boyzz was around and it gave us some inspiration being around this Soldier (Sosha means Soldier in Zulu) while he was chilling with his new toy:) Results? Team A 218 Team B 159 Team C 136 Proud of our teams and looking forward to the next mini challenge - sit ups!

Anticipating a great race 2025 ahead!

Jul 18, 2025, 11:30:44 AM

Our very first challenge 2020 was dead hard. No joke. It took us 5 hrs 20 min to complete it and we were not fully aware of what we were doing and how it all had to work. 6 years later, WRC is our highlight of the year! What gives us strength and inspiration is the thought that we are not alone, and that we run not only to help ourselves, but also to help and support men and women rangers across Africa who also have faced consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic. We have come 3d among women teams twice and are very proud of ourselves. Wishing all the African rangers best of luck and let your boots never let you down! Let's go!
