We are the Great Plains wildlife rangers protecting 291,000 acres of wilderness along the Zambezi River in Zimbabwe. We are working to ensure this essential ecosystem, which is part of the greater Zimbabwe-Mozambique-Zambia Transfrontier Conservation Area (ZIMOZA TFCA), remains healthy and functioning. Specific projects we have been working on recently include ecosystem monitoring, community engagements, reducing illegal threats, and wildlife translocations.

Our daily work helps to protect this important ecosystem, home to elephants, lions, leopards, wild dogs, and a haven for birds.

What does our daily work look like?

  1. Collect data to build data sets of species and vegetation to inform conservation decisions and map changes over time
  2. Patrol for potential threats to the ecosystem
  3. Create population data on large herbivores and carnivores
  4. Analyse data that has been collected
  5. Support regional conservation and partner with our organisations to find solutions collaboratively
  6. Connect with communities to discuss conservation topics
  7. Educate in schools on the value of conservation
  8. Inspire the younger generation with job opportunities in conservation
  9. Work on specific activities such as translocations, wildlife darting exercises, research etc

We are a match partner, so every donation for our rangers is matched! Help us protect this landscape and the wildlife populations that call it home.

The team have completed the Quiz Challenge and are feeling motivated and inspired! The rangers possess extensive knowledge of wildlife species and ecosystems, which they apply daily in their work monitoring critical species and conducting vegetation surveys. We are already in training for the next challenge!
