Rangers are Africa’s unsung heroes. They hold diverse roles as conservationists, teachers, community support workers, leaders and much more.
The Wildlife Ranger Challenge, organised by Tusk, is a celebration of solidarity, connection and camaraderie for the ranger profession. Culminating on 20th September 2025, the campaign raises vital funds for Africa's biodiversity guardians.

African People & Wildlife (APW) supports a dedicated team of 11 Community Game Scouts who patrol 914,000 acres of communal lands bordering Tarangire National Park in Tanzania.
This habitat supports elephants, lions, giraffes, and other species that share the landscape with people and livestock. As both rangers and coexistence officers, the scouts protect wildlife, prevent conflict, and strengthen community-led conservation.
In 2024, their wildlife counts have recorded 28 unique species and 18,200+ individual animals. Their commitment in the field is matched by their strength on the global stage! These teams have proudly won the Wildlife Ranger Challenge multiple times.
“We have trained with commitment and worked hard together,” says Patrol Commander Ezekiel Loserian. “Winning the Wildlife Ranger Challenge has made us proud. It shows what community rangers can achieve with discipline, teamwork, and a strong heart for conservation.”
