Our Story

Gashaka Gumti National Park is the largest, most diverse and scenic park in Nigeria. It serves as an important catchment for the Benue River catering for millions of people. It’s a refuge to some threatened and endangered species of flora and fauna, such as two species of pangolins, the Nigeria Cameroon chimpanzees, African rosewood trees and African walnut trees.

The park has been put under severe pressure by illegal activities such as logging, poaching, mining and cattle grazing. To deal with these issues, ANI has trained and deployed rangers from the communities around the park and has given them the best training available in Africa by Conservation Outcomes. Modern equipment for proper monitoring and documentation of field observation is used by these rangers. WRC has encouraged the spirit of camaraderie and friendly competition among rangers. The solidarity and passion to protect nature is truly inspiring.

The support in 2024 will go a long way in providing more kit and equipment for rangers and also provide a means of livelihood by recruiting more rangers to protect this beautiful endowment of nature in Nigeria.
