Wildlife Action Group - Malawi - Wildlife Ranger Challenge 2024
Wildlife Action Group - Malawi is taking on the Wildlife Ranger Challenge to raise awareness of the vital role our 43 rangers play in protecting Malawi's Thuma & Dedza Salima Escarpement Forest Reserves, and supporting an estimated 430 livelihoods.
Our Story
Rangers are Africa’s unsung heroes. They hold diverse roles as conservationists, teachers, community support workers, leaders and much more.
The Wildlife Ranger Challenge, organised by Tusk, is a celebration of solidarity, connection and camaraderie for the ranger profession. Culminating on 21st September 2024, the campaign raises vital funds for Africa's biodiversity guardians.
Wildlife Action Group - Malawi - Thuma & Dedza Salima Escarpement Forest Reserves is a focused and responsive conservation team that over the years has worked hard to protect, preserve and restore the biodiversity and wildlife that live within the reserves. Despite positive impacts on the ground, both forests remain under severe pressure from all sides.
Our dedicated, hard working skilled rangers serve to prevent the illegal killing of wildlife including the African elephant and the illegal unsustainable take off of forest products. We do this through conducting daily patrols on foot. Our rangers are actively engaged and play a vital role in the community's daily lives through supporting income generating projects, environmental education in schools, promoting human wildlife coexistence..
