Our Wildlife Ranger Challenge 2024 TEAM MID-ZAMBEZI is new to WRC and we are loving this team's enthusiasm to be part of the WRC action! Rangers are deployed throughout Mid-Zambezi Region, based out of Regional HQ at Chinhoyi Caves.

Our Story

The Wildlife Ranger Challenge, organised by Tusk, is a celebration of solidarity, connection and camaraderie for the ranger profession. culminating on 21st September 2024, the campaign raises vital funds for Africa's biodiversity guardians.

Rangers based in Tashinga Initiative - Mid-Zambezi Base Station form part of the patrol effort across the unique landscape that makes up the Zambezi Valley’s 12,820 sq km of wildlife protected areas. Rangers protect territorial integrity, undertake biological monitoring, conservation management, community relations and manage equipment, resources and tourism.

WRC Grants have significantly supported a total of 350 ZimParks Rangers. The resultant WRC Grants for Rangers in LZV addressed

- food security through the provision of monthly dry food hampers,

- the provision of ranger patrol kit such as backpacks and boots,

- the maintenance of daily field-based and law enforcement operations, thus enhancing morale and efficacy.

This Team entered into WRC for the first time this year and have been entirely successful in its execution! Very proud to see them achieving the 21km race and leaving at 0350hrs in the morning to ensure that they missed all the heavy traffic on the only road that they can run on - the 30 ton trucks were left behind! Many many congratulations! Thank you to Regional Office for the absolutely amazing support provided to this new team!!

It was great to see this new Team Mid-Zambezi complete their 2-min Situp Challenge - this was their first experience of the 3 mini-challenges and they delivered perfectly!! Many congratulations to this team! The final scores will be published on the WRC leaderboard on 17th September!

It was great to see this new entry into WRC 2024 undertake their 21km trial for the first time, but due to other commitments, and serious time constraints, we asked them to please undertake the trial but to cut it down to 12km. This they did excellently, fulfilling all the other criteria, team photos, backpack weigh ins and sending all the STRAVA links onto their whatsapp group chat! Perfect delivery for this new team.

This team committed and has delivered to Widlife Ranger Challenge 2024 Pushup Challenge and the team did a fantastic 163 pushups in 2 mins! Very well done on all the training and hard work that went into the preparations, especially as this is your very first PUSHUP CHALLENGE. We just loved our last time with Team Mid-Zambezi - great enthusiasm and eager to learn all about Wildlife Ranger Challenge. We had handed over T-shirts, caps, Bova Boots and this time it was backpacks. These were used almost immediately with a training run that very afternoon!
